On Thursday, November 7, 2024, LyondellBasell (LYB) announced two $40,000 contributions to the Westlake Fire and Police Departments to support first responder capability enhancements. Altogether, this $80,000 investment will equip both departments with the tools and resources needed to more efficiently respond to crisis situations.
In preparation for the I-10 bridge reconstruction, the Westlake Fire Department will utilize this $40,000 contribution to purchase battery-powered extrication equipment that will provide more agility and speed of response during various emergency situations.
“This tool will give us the ability to respond faster and access harder to reach places, including incidents on the bridge. It will also allow us to reserve our existing resources for other incidents north of the railroad tracks,” said Chief Jonathan Duff, Westlake Fire Department. “We are grateful for our partnership with LyondellBasell and their continued dedication to support local first responders.”
With the $40k investment from LYB, the Westlake Police Department will purchase new, updated radio equipment for the entire department, streamlining communication among officers and units.
“We are extremely grateful to LyondellBasell for this generous contribution to support our department as we prepare for future expansion projects in Southwest Louisiana. This update to our communication system will allow us to better serve the community of Westlake and the surrounding areas and better equip our response capabilities ahead of the I-10 bridge reconstruction,” said Chief Chris Wilrye, Westlake Police Department.
Through our global corporate citizenship program, LYB is dedicated to understanding community needs and creating impactful relationships through community investments and employee volunteerism. Our commitment to creating good through strategic community initiatives and collaboration is underscored through the impact of our community partnerships with local first responders.
“We are honored to collaborate with the Westlake Fire and Police Departments to provide tools and resources needed to protect the residents in Westlake and Southwest Louisiana. Our partnership with local first responders is paramount to our operations, and we are grateful to serve the communities that we call home,” said Armando Lara, site manager.
